In favour of Mary, full of grace.

A defense of the sinlessness of our Blessed Mother, Holy Mary, Mother of God. Based on Luke 1:28.

In this article I will try to explain the original Greek word "Kecharitomene" which is found in Luke 1:28 and is translated as "full of grace".

Luke 1:28

And [the Angel Gabriel] came to [Mary] and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!"

"Kecharitomene"

"Ke" -> a prefix which turns the word it is attached to into a word in the "perfect" tense. It indicates the current and ongoing effects of the word.

"Charito" -> means "grace" or "favor" in a "passive" tense, it is always translated as "grace" in the Holy Bible. Except for in Protestant bibles, who (only in this specific verse) translate it to mean "favor".

"Mene" -> a suffix which indicates that the word is singular feminine.

Therefore when we combine these details we learn that "Kecharitomene" or "full of grace" literally means "singular female who has been filled with grace in the past, and it still continues now" which is translated to "full of grace".

Conclusion

Since Mary has been perfectly filled with grace in the past and still is, "Kecharitomene" is an excellent argument for Mary's sinlessness and even her Immaculate Conception. The fact that Protestant bibles mistranslate it only in this specific instance is actually an argument for the Catholic interpretation of Luke 1:28.
